For the first 2 years, this project was completely self-financed. Since I felt it was important to take the time to do this project carefully, I chose to exhaust all of my personal savings before requesting any financial support from the community at large.
I’ve done this on an absolute shoe string budget: no apartment, no hotels, just me on the road: camping, couch surfing, sleeping in my car, not eating enough, and working odd jobs – whatever it takes. I’m a one man, self-educated documentary crew and do everything myself – research, producing, interviewing, camera operation, audio, editing, marketing, you name it.
In the fall of 2012, I ran a successful fundraiser using Kickstarter and brought in over $30,000 in contributions – all by generous supporters who want to see this film get made. This funding enabled me to finish the final phase of filming and I’m now in a lengthy and expensive post production phase.
It will take me a long time to put this together in a professional way. The more funds I have, the higher quality it will be and the sooner I’ll be able to complete it. I have roughly 500 hours of footage to go through and piece together into a 90 minute documentary! Going through all that is an arduous, expensive task of transcribing, editing, audio mixing, scoring, color correcting, mastering and finally distributing. With your assistance, I’ll be able to finalize the project by spring of 2014.
If you’d like to help this project get produced, please consider making a contribution and sharing the project with others in your community.
The gift of these teachings excels all gifts; the taste of the teachings excels all tastes; delight in the teachings excels all delights; the eradication of the source of discontentment overcomes all ills.” – The Buddha
Seeking Heartwood was recently successful campaigning for funds using the online service Kickstarter.
Rewards were offered at various donation levels, some of which were Buddha statues from all over the world. These were kindly provided by the generous folks at Buddha For You! A great place with fantastic people and amazing products based out of San Diego.
